   I can certainly see why you want it. Makes sense.

   I don't know much about sudo, but I thought you could do something
similar with that? I just haven't taken the time to learn.

I wrote jackstart based on givertcap and other programs that implemented
bits and pieces of it. Somebody (can't remember his name) integrated it in
the make and build system for jack.

It should not make any difference whatsoever. Jackstart merely verifies
that jackd is what it claims to be (for security purposes), gives it the
right "capabilities" and execs jackd. Let me know if it does make a
difference (well... maybe I don't really want to know :-) With jackstart
you do not need to run jack or ardour as root.

I thought jackstart was REALLY necessary to make jack useful, at least in
shared workstation environment. You would not want to give everyone the
root password.
