Dear DMA students,

We, as ccrma PhDs, met up to discuss the inclusion of DMA students in the ccrma desk assignments. We also met with Matt prior to the meeting to determine what we have available to us. Currently, we only have 8 desks, one of which is designated for Dr. Jonathan Abel. Due to the chaos in our building, we don’t know what the future will hold for desks spaces, but for now, we have 7. This means that a lot of PhDs won’t be able to have desks in winter either.

While this wasn’t an easy decision, we have decided to include only ccrma PhDs in the desk assignment procedure for the Winter 2024 quarter. Since it was determined a few years ago that the responsibility for assigning the desks is left up to the ccrma PhDs, we used the available information and the current situation of the building to guide our decision.

This procedure might change in the future as more working space becomes available. We want to include you in the discussion as the situation evolves and encourage you to use the many other available working spaces at ccrma while we are under construction. Also, if it’s useful to you, there are lockers available for storage of personal and work items.

We sympathize with your need for space and we hope that this issue is resolved in the future. We are happy to help you navigate resources available at ccrma and communicate your needs with the ccrma faculty and staff.

Yours truly,

CCRMA PhDs
