Hi Neuro Music Lab,
Similarity study audio can be found on the CCRMA server at:
/user/k/kawczins/Documents/research/sample_similarity_audio/. There are
three folders in this directory:
- sim_seq --> Stimuli constructed using a synthesized audio sequence; in
my opinion, not rich enough to be useful.
- sim_sing --> Stimuli constructed with real recorded audio, where
adjustments are constructed from the same scheme used to generate the
audio in the threshold studies.
- sim_sing2 --> Same as sim_sing but with a different scale so that
negative adjustments are more noticeable.
The file naming scheme is: "[value held constant]c_[sign of
adjustment][value adjusted]_[multiple of threshold adjustment].wav". For
example, in Ec_-T_3.wav, wet (reverb) energy was kept constant and T60
(decay time) was decreased by a ratio of 2^(-3t), where t is the
measured threshold of perception for adjustments of the form 2^(t).
The 2^(3t) business above is the adjustment scheme I used in the
original threshold study and in the sim_sing audio files. I think it
would be best to use this set of stimuli. However, for more contrast, in
sim_sing2, adjustments are made via [multiple]^([sign]*1)*2^(t); so,
here Ec_-T_3.wav becomes a ratio of 3^(-1)*2^(t).
Let me know which set you think sounds the best. Happy to elaborate
further and/or chat if this is all terribly confusing.
Thanks,
Kim
