[LAC-19] Let's solve AVB during LAC19

Folks:

Nando and I were lamenting the fact that we currently use MOTU audio interfaces on Linux via USB, leading to problems such as being totally dependent on a specific firmware version that’s neither too young nor too old to support 64 channels.

A much better situation for us and for the world at large would be a complete implementation of audio-over-AVB so that with just an Ethernet cable (and proper adherence to the AVB spec on both sides of that cable), a Linux machine would see the (for now MOTU) audio interface (perhaps at least via Jack if not ALSA/Pulseaudio?).

So I thought with LAC coming to town maybe we could convene a working group to at least talk about if not actually solve this issue, perhaps with some kind of hackathon… Nando thought that might not be a bad idea, so I’m passing it to all of you…

Thoughts?

thanks,
-Matt
