[CM] installation problem on 64-bit ubuntu

[Forrest Curo]

Trying to follow the common music installation instructions from that site
I end up needing a later version of cmake than their package system
supports (cmake4.3)
and the cmake instructions for installing that later version fail also.
(The new cmake, despite a successful chmoding to 777, ends up returning 'no
such file or directory'.)

Help?
