Thanks, Bill, but 4.4 didn't make a difference, I get the same error as 
before.

Ouch. Might be an out-of-date Juce tree ?

I know a lot of devs don't like them but I've always felt that the 
autotools did a pretty good job. And I agree, problems with the build 
are somewhat easier to follow, at least if you're familiar with 
autotools. :)

Btw, I'm building from the git sources (IIRC).
