ok then perhaps you didnt enable fomus when you built from source.  
assuming you installed fomus in /usr/local do this:

cd cm
rm -r obj bin
premake --verbose --target gnu --sndlib /PATH/TO/SNDLIB  --fomus /usr/ 
local
make
bin/Grace &


see the readme for other build options.

ill make a binary 8.3.0 release in the next few days.
