[CM] cm3 error

Hi, I would like to report an error I get when
starting cm3. This only happens on my 64bit computer,
running Ubuntu Studio (it works on my i686 laptop with Ubuntu
Studio), and only when I try to start it from a virtual terminal (with
or without emacs). I have no problems when I start cm in emacs,
from within an X session (not sure if it works without starting emacs 
first in X,
I think it doesn't, but I can check later).

The error I get is:

"No protocol specified
 Failed to open the X display."

I don't recall any errors while building cm. I could provide you
with more details, but I'm not sure where to start.
