[CM] Common Music in Emacs

I have set up CM as a Emacs inferior process in LISP mode and using it to
run code examples from Notes from the Meta-Level. For some reason I get an
unbound variable error when I try to call "events":

(events (play-harms2 4) "harms.mid" :channel-tuning 108)
;events: unbound variable
error

(events (clearbends ) "clearbends.mid")
;events: unbound variable
error

Does anybody know why this is?
