Why not just use a button, that when it's playing, it's red or green
or something?. In any case, there is something terribly wrong with it
here:

When I press the button to play, the check box is checked, but if I
move the mouse away from the check box, the check disappear. If I
hover the mouse back over the check box again, before the file is
finished, the check appears again.

So, it doesn't show a checked box here when the mouse is not hovering
over the check box while playing;).

Well, it is a play _button_;) - old habits die hard, I guess.
