Thanks for the telephone url -- I added it to the touch-tone telephone instrument in clm-ins.scm (ugex.ins in CLM). I never did nail down what that noise was -- it was affected by what seemed to be an automatic gain control, and was much worse on the calls to Australia and Las Vegas. I was able to notch out enough of it to be acceptable.
