I sort-of found an answer about my *output* question in http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/software/snd/snd/clm.html Once I (definstrument (scm-simp ...)), I pass it as an arg to the with-sound macro, defined in ws.scm. Among (many) other things, with-sound defines *output*. Plugging along... Richard
