[CM] dac-size limit?

Hi there,

I figured out that my choppy file playback might be due to the default
setting of dac-size, which appears to be 64.  I've been trying to set it
to a higher power-of-two value (2048 or 4096), but it doesn't ever go
higher than 256:

>(dac-size)
64
>(set! (dac-size) 4096)
256
>(set! (dac-size) 2048)
256
>

Any ideas if this is a hard ceiling or if there is a way I'm not seeing to
get it higher than that?  Even at 256 playback is choppy and gross.
