Stella doesn't support the Midi type 1 File format.  However, that 
doesn't imply that you are stuck with "channel-less" midi files! 
Format 0 means only that all events go straight into one single 
track. That is, there is no Conductor track or the else. Channel
information will be preserved, however (tracks aren't "real" Midi
runtime messages nor a core Midi notion).
You can convert any format 0 file to format 1 using any commercial
available sequencer s/w.

Sorry, no idea regarding the clisp/dos problems.
