gnu CLISP is indeed the CLISP that was developed by Bruno Haible (and Michael Stoll). It seemed attractive to me because it is much smaller (in data size) than Franz, which might make cm, clm, etc. easier to wield on a system with low memory (16m for me, and 8m for others).
