From ge at ccrma.Stanford.EDU Fri Apr 1 12:29:24 2022 From: ge at ccrma.Stanford.EDU (Ge Wang) Date: Fri, 1 Apr 2022 12:29:24 -0700 Subject: [Artful-Design] mega update Message-ID: Dear friends, I hope this finds you well. Instead of sending incremental emails, here is one "mega update" for the community! Low tech, high life on the John Muir Trail. Motivated to escape the sedentary pandemic lifestyle of 2020, I took to the High Sierra and backpacked the 210-mile John Muir Trail last summer. Made a film about our misadventures: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WVqDJ34HnYE DSN100 returns. I will be teaching this 6-week Stanford Continuing Studies course on "Artful Design: How We Shape Technology and How Technology Shapes Us" this Spring Quarter, starting 4/21. (Course enrollment is open!) https://artful.design/dsn100/ After three years, the Stanford Laptop Orchestra is back! We have concerts schedule for May 5th (CCRMA Stage) and June 4th (Bing Concert Hall), both of which will also be live-streamed. To learn of upcoming events, join the mailing list. https://slork.stanford.edu/ mailing list: https://cm-mail.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/slork-announce Welcome to the Reality Room. We are planning another open house in May (on Friday the 13th). https://xr.stanford.edu/ mailing list: https://cm-mail.stanford.edu/mailman/listinfo/vr-community Humans in the Loop. I recently gave a talk at Stanford Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence weekly series, where I presented about "Humans in the Loop: the Artful Design of Interactive AI Systems". It has been an honor (this year we have 150 students) and I've learned so much designing and teaching this course. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen -- especially my fellow instructors, wonderful guest lecturers, students, and the folks at Stanford Introductory Studies. https://artful.design/think66/ Here's to the Pi-Shaped Person in all of us. https://artful.design/pi/ Stay safe, artful, free, Ge! ~~~ Ge Wang Associate Professor Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) Department of Music (also Computer Science, by Courtesy) Stanford University https://ccrma.stanford.edu/~ge/ ~ Artful Design: Technology in Search of the Sublime! -- what we make, makes us -- https://artful.design/ ~~~
